We introduced a brand new mechanic in Elestrals TCG called Sever!
Here are some things that you need to know about the Sever mechanic:
The short version is that a Severed Spirit can do most of what an Elestral can do and most of what a Spirit can do.
On the field, Severed Spirits are considered to be both Spirits AND Elestrals. Severed Spirits are treated as Elestrals with an Enchantment Cost of 0 and they are treated as being Enchanted by 1 Spirit of their Element. For example, a Severed Frost Spirit is treated as being Enchanted with 1 Frost Spirit.
Like Elestrals, Severed Spirits can:
- Declare attacks, be attacked, and change their Position
- Stat changes can apply to them
- Statuses like Suppressed, Dazed, and Enraged can be applied to them
- Be Empowered by Artifact Runes
Like Spirits, Severed Spirits can:
- Be Disenchanted
- Be Nexused
- Be used to play Invoke and Counter Runes
They do almost everything that an Elestral and a Spirit Enchanting a card on your field can do. There are two exceptions:
- First, Severed Spirits cannot receive Spirits. You cannot Enchant Spirits to them or Nexus to them.
- Second, Severed Spirits cannot be involved in an Ascension. You can’t Ascend over them and you can’t “siphon” them when you’re performing an Ascension.
The last important piece of rules information to know is that Severing a Spirit is not considered to be Casting an Elestral, so Severed Spirits do not go on the following Chain like a Special Cast or Special Ascend might. Severing a Spirit is more like resolving a card effect.
This is a high level overview so if you have any questions, please join our discord server and we have a wonderful team of judges who can help carry the conversation.
Sever is a fun and unique mechanic that will unlock a new strategy for Elestrals!
